Description:

Medium-sized wheatear, with rufous-orange lower back and rump and rufous sides to tail. Plumage is greyish-brown from crown to back, with blackish lores to eye and shading to pale brownish on flanks and pale orange-tinged buff on vent; wings mid-brown with broad grey-buff fringes.


Distribution:

Possible winter visitor to the south-western parts of Diamer district. Occurs in dry rocky slopes and stony mountain ridges, often with nearby streams, at 1200-3100m; winters lower in semi-desert areas with scattered scrub.


Behavior:

Forages either from rock perch with perch-and-pounce method, or on ground with bound-and-grab method; also picks items off vegetation, digs in earth with bill and sallies after flying insects. Mainly feeds on invertebrates, chiefly ants and beetles; and some vegetable matter, consumed usually in winters.
